US created 215,000 jobs in July vs 223,000 expected; unemployment rate at 5.3%

U.S. job gains in July fell slightly short of expectations, and the unemployment rate did not budge from June, the Labor Department reported Friday. American companies added 215,000 jobs for the month, while the unemployment rate remained at 5.3 percent, the department said. The labor force participation rate also remained flat at 62.6, its lowest level since 1977.
