There’s Now Officially a Tulip Named After Philadelphia

There’s a new tulip in town.

The Philly Belle is a variety of tulip named after Philadelphia. It’s a gift from The Netherlands, showing an appreciation for the Philadelphia Flower Show making “Holland: Flowering the World” the theme for its 2017 event. The tulip was presented to the city at the show’s preview party on March 10.

The Philadelphia Flower Show has more than Holland-themed, its centerpiece is the Ecodome, which goes into detail about Holland’s sustainable and green technological innovations. It’s essentially a showcase really for The Netherlands, proving that the country has more to offer gardeners than just tulips.
